Urban planners against climate changes

We can easily notice climate changes, high temperatures or heavy rainfalls. June was full of events which tackled these issues. One of them was a meeting which was a part of “Water in: City” cycle. It was organised on 20 June 2022 by The Warsaw Branch of the Association of Polish Architects at the Zodiac Pavilion.

The main guest of the event was Joanna Rayss (an experienced landscape architect). She pointed out causes and effects of issues related to climate change, directions of changes in city planning models and water-related challenges, which we try to tackle by designing retention systems.

Presented solutions for green areas included different irrigation methods, methodology of calculating the rainwater volume and methodology of designing a Surface Urban Retention System as a biologically active area. Indicated examples showed that proper greenery and water management can solve engineering problems and support climate change mitigation.
