Draft act aimed at making the current urban policy more climate-oriented

The Minister of Climate and Environment is proceeding an act aimed at changing some of the already existing acts in order to make the current urban policy more climate-oriented.

The amendment will introduce change to: Spatial Planning and Development Act, Environmental Protection Law, Law on Providing Information about Environment and Environmental Protection, Participation of Residents in Environmental Protection and Environmental Impact Assessment, Municipal Government Act and Voivodeship Government Act.

The purpose of the amendment is to introduce solutions which would make the current urban policy more climate-friendly, especially in terms of ecological transformation of the cities.

The draft Act makes it obligatory for the cities with over 20 000 residents to prepare an adaptation plan (which would consider climate changes) and to include the adaptation aspect within strategic documents, including the ones on urban planning. Other important features of the Act are: requirement to provide the context for environmental adaptation in voivodeship policy, greening the civic budget in cities with county rights and requirement to clarify some of the regulations within Law on Providing Information about Environment and Environmental Protection, Participation of Residents in Environmental Protection and Environmental Impact Assessment in relation to susceptibility of enterprises to climate changes.
