ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Environmental analyzes as part of the feasibility study of the Nadwiślańska Route

Part I – Study of the route – environmental conditions

Environmental conditions were part of the feasibility study for the Nadwiślańska Route [Vistula Route] in Warsaw and at the same time one of the main criteria for project evaluation.

Environmental analyzes included field mapping in terms of plant cover, the sensitivity of areas to traffic nuisance and geo-environmental conditions research.

The analysis was extended to include the assessment of the route’s impact on protected areas, including Natura 2000 sites. This is due to the fact that the initial alternative plans of the route corridor led through the right-bank areas of the Vistula valley, located within the Warsaw Protected Landscape Area and the Natura 2000 area. These lands are crucial elements in supplying the city’s natural structures and shaping its climate.

The environmental assessment together with the formulated guidelines and indications of solutions were one of the main criteria for selecting the most environmentally beneficial road alternative.
